Privacy Policy
Last updated 25 September 2026
The short version. Your recordings, screenshots and edits stay on your computer. We never see them. What we do keep is small: your account details, any bug report you send us, and basic counts of how the website is used. We do not sell data, we do not run ads, and we do not use third-party trackers.
This policy covers the Clipio desktop app for Windows and macOS, and the website at clipio.pro. “Clipio”, “we” and “us” mean the team that makes them. Questions go to support@clipio.pro.
What stays on your computer
Everything you capture and create. That includes:
- Screen recordings, webcam video, microphone and system audio
- Screenshots, GIFs, and your edits, annotations and projects
- Your mouse and keyboard activity during a recording (used to place zooms and cursor effects)
- Text found by OCR, blurred sensitive information, and captions. These all run on your computer, not on a server.
None of this is uploaded to us. The only way your content leaves your computer is if you share it to your own Google Drive (see below) or send the file somewhere yourself.
What we collect
If you create an account
- Email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google or add them yourself.
- Password, if you sign up with email. Only a one-way hash is stored, never the password itself. The desktop app never handles it.
- Account details: your plan, when you signed up, when you last used Clipio, the app version and operating system.
- Rough location: your country and time zone, worked out from your device’s time zone and language settings. We do not look up your location from your IP address.
- Email preferences: whether you agreed to product updates, and when you unsubscribed.
If you join the waitlist
Your email address, plus your country, city and time zone (worked out from your time zone setting), language, device type, operating system and browser, and how you found us (the referring site or campaign link).
If you send a bug report or feedback
What you write, the email you give us (if any), and your app version, operating system, processor and screen size, so we can reproduce the problem. If you are signed in, the report is linked to your account.
When you visit the website
Each page view records the page, the site you came from, and a random ID stored in your browser. It is not a cookie and it is not shared with anyone. If you are signed in, events are linked to your account. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels or any other third-party tracker.
Signing in on the website sets one cookie that keeps you signed in. It is needed for the site to work and is not used for anything else.
Server logs
Like almost every web server, ours keeps a technical log of requests, including the IP address, to keep the service running and to deal with abuse. These logs are rotated and deleted automatically, within about 90 days. We do not use them for analytics or to identify you.
Update checks
The desktop app checks clipio.pro for new versions. That request
includes the app version and nothing about you or your content.
Google sign-in and Google Drive
Signing in with Google gives us your email address, name and profile picture. We never see your Google password.
Sharing to Google Drive is optional. If you connect it, Clipio asks for two permissions:
drive.file: lets Clipio create and manage only the files it uploads, in a “Clipio Shared” folder. It cannot see anything else in your Drive.userinfo.email: shows which Google account is connected.
Uploads go straight from your computer to your own Drive. They do not pass through our servers, and the access token stays on your computer. Clipio sets each shared file to “anyone with the link can view”, so treat those links as you would any unlisted link. You can disconnect at any time in the app under Settings → Integrations, or from your Google account permissions.
Clipio’s use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and no person reads it.
How we use it
- To run your account and sign you in
- To send emails you need, like verification and password resets
- To send product updates, only if you agreed. You can turn them off at any time on your account page.
- To tell waitlist members when Clipio launches
- To fix the bugs you report
- To see, in total, how the website and app are used, so we know what to improve
- To prevent abuse, for example by limiting how often a form can be sent
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
A small number of services work on our behalf:
- Amazon Web Services hosts our server and database.
- Resend delivers our emails.
- Google provides sign-in and Drive, and we keep a copy of bug reports in a private Google Sheet so we can track them.
- Google Fonts serves the website’s typeface, so your browser requests it from Google.
- Optional downloads, like caption models, come from their public hosts (such as Hugging Face or GitHub). Those sites see an ordinary download request.
We will disclose information if the law requires it. If Clipio is ever sold or merged, this policy continues to apply to the data it covers.
How long we keep it
- Account data: until you ask us to delete your account.
- Waitlist emails: until launch is announced, or until you ask us to remove yours.
- Bug reports: as long as they help us fix things. Ask and we will delete yours.
- Website usage events: automatically deleted after one year.
- Sign-in sessions and one-time codes: deleted once they expire.
- Server logs: about 90 days.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct, export or delete the data we hold about you. Email support@clipio.pro from the address on your account and we will reply within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your account data and signs you out everywhere.
You can also turn off product emails on your account page, disconnect Google Drive in the app, and remove Clipio’s access from your Google account at any time.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights under local law, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Security
Everything between the app, the website and our server travels over HTTPS. Passwords and sign-in tokens are stored only as one-way hashes. On your computer, the app encrypts its sign-in token with your operating system’s secure storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold small, and that is the best protection we know.
Children
Clipio is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our server is hosted by Amazon Web Services in Singapore, and our providers may process data in other countries. Using Clipio means your information may be handled outside your country, always under the protections in this policy.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. For significant changes we will also tell account holders by email or in the app before the change takes effect.
